Solar Light Project
In response to the challenges faced by students in developing countries who often lack reliable lighting for evening study, the China Foundation for Rural Development launched the Solar Light Project. This initiative collects and distributes solar-powered lights to students in need, improving their ability to study after dark and supporting educational equity. By providing sustainable and clean energy solutions, the project not only enhances learning conditions but also conveys care and solidarity from the Chinese people, contributing to deeper people-to-people connections.
The project has been implemented in Nepal, Ethiopia, and Myanmar. The program primarily benefits primary and middle school students attending public schools in developing countries.
As of the end of August 2025, a total of 22,058 solar lights have been distributed under the Solar Light Project. This includes 1,800 units in Nepal, 17,250 in Ethiopia, and 3,008 in Myanmar. Overall, the project has benefited 22,058 students, significantly improving their study environments and supporting longer and safer learning hours after sunset.
