Backbone Project (Health Insurance for Poor Families’ Labors)
To address the risk of returning to poverty due to illness or accidents among low-income rural populations, CFRD, together with Alibaba Philanthropy, Alipay Philanthropy, and the Ant Group Antbao Platform, launched the Backbone Project in 2017. The project offers tailored public welfare insurance to provide comprehensive health and accident protection for low-income groups, thereby reducing the incidence of poverty recurrence.
By leveraging the advantages of public welfare insurance, the project provides health coverage to the main labour force (aged 18-60) from low-income rural households. This initiative helps mitigate the risk of falling back into poverty due to health issues and supports the ongoing effort to consolidate and expand achievements in poverty alleviation while advancing rural revitalisation.
